Non BC Ferries Job Postings – Aug 2023

The BCFMWU has added this external job posting tab as a result of an increase in requests for letters of concurrence through the Seafarers International Union of Canada (SIUoC).

A letter of concurrence is requested when a company operating a vessel within Canadian waters is seeking mariners and wants to bring in temporary foreign workers (TFW). Prior to ESDC (Economic Skills Development Canada) providing a letter of approval for a company to use TFW’s non-Canadian mariners, Canadian Marine Unions are to be canvassed and if there are no Canadian mariners available then a letter of concurrence can be provided through the SIUoC to ESDC.

*Note that the wage outlined in a non BCFMWU posting is not necessarily reflective of the regional pay and will use a “prevailing wage” as the floor for compensation. This is typically lower that west coast rates of pay.

BCFMWU has been contacted by Seafarers’ International Union of Canada / Syndicat International des Marins Canadiens regarding a request by Bridgemans for crew on board Canadian Vessels. The Vessels are the Bridge Cat 45, Orca Mist, Orca Spirit II, and the Catalina Adventure.

BCFMWU has been notified that a company in Vancouver intends to commence a new operation by importing a large foreign passenger vessel into Canada.  At this point, the company has an intention to register their ships under the Canadian flag after they enter service.  BCFMWU is not affiliated with this company and we are not able to verify every detail of the information that we have been provided with.

Please see  below for all information about the job postings.
