Bulletin #34 Transport Canada & BC Ferries’ Vaccine Mandate Ends June 20, 2022

Bulletin #34
June 14, 2022

TRANSPORT CANADA & BC FERRIES’
VACCINE MANDATE ENDS
JUNE 20, 2022

The Union has been advised the Federal Government will be suspending the mandatory vaccination policy for federally regulated transportation workers. This impacts all non-vaccinated members currently on Leave Without Pay (LWOP) status.

The Union believes each member returning from LWOP should not have seniority adjusted by the Company in any manner and that their pension contributions be reinstated by the Employer.

Considerations for members:

  • Seafarers medical
  • Vessel and route clearance
  • MED and first aid certificate (if required)
  • Family/life/alternate work obligations.

While this has been a long and difficult process, we trust the public health decision is the correct one and welcome the Union members back.

The Union understands membership trust with the Company will take time to rebuild and, in some cases, a long time. We remain committed to protecting all members rights. As a result, our outstanding LWOP grievances will proceed as planned in an effort to make members whole.
