Convention 101: Your ideas, your union
Have an idea for improving our union? Convention is a chance to turn it into action.
Our 50th convention takes place March 15–17, 2027, in Vancouver. Here’s how it works and how you can get involved.
What is convention?
Convention brings delegates from across our union together to debate proposals, make decisions and help set our direction. Those decisions shape how our union works and what we focus on.
What is a delegate?
A delegate is a member chosen to represent their local at convention. Delegates discuss proposals, vote on decisions and bring their local’s perspective to the floor.
Interested in being a delegate? Ask your local president about the selection process.
What is a resolution?
A resolution is a written proposal asking the union to do something or make a change. It could address a workplace issue, suggest a new priority or propose a change to how our union works.
You don’t need to have all the wording figured out before raising an idea. Your local can help you develop it.
How do I bring an idea forward?
Start at your local meeting. Explain what you’d like to change and why it matters. Members can discuss the idea and decide whether to approve it as a resolution for convention.
Local-approved resolutions are due November 15. Check with your local president about meeting dates and when proposals need to be brought forward.
Why should I get involved?
Convention decisions start with members. Bringing an idea to your local, joining the discussion or putting your name forward as a delegate gives you a chance to help shape what happens next.
Our union turns 50 next year. What should its next chapter look like?
