Budget 2027: Three priorities for B.C.’s marine transportation system

Every year, the Province of British Columbia invites public recommendations ahead of the provincial budget. Your union submitted three priorities for B.C.’s 2027 provincial budget that focus on what ferry workers and passengers need.

Our recommendations call on the province to:

  • Build ferries in B.C., keeping ferry construction, refit and maintenance work in the province, sending paycheques into our communities, not overseas.
  • Expand access to marine training so more people can enter the industry and build careers in marine transportation, ensuring full staffing levels for ferries.
  • Review publicly funded ferry services to ensure public money delivers the best possible value and accountability.

Marine transportation in B.C. connects communities, supports local economies and keeps people and goods moving every day. Investing in the marine sector means investing in workers, coastal communities and the long-term future of the province.

We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the Budget 2027 consultation and will continue advocating for policies that strengthen B.C.’s marine transportation system and the workers who keep it moving.
