Statement on disappearance during ferry sailing

We’re deeply saddened to learn of the disappearance of a man believed to have gone overboard during a ferry sailing in the Strait of Georgia early this week.
Events like this hit hard. Ferry crews care about the people they carry, and situations like this stay with them long after a sailing ends.
Our thoughts are with the man’s family, and with the crews and first responders who were part of the search.
We thank the marine and air search and rescue partners who are assisting, including the Canadian Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue and federal air and naval partners.
We can’t offer further details at this time. Like many of you, we’ll be watching for updates and hoping for the best for his family.
If you’re a BC Ferries crew member who needs to talk to someone about this tragic event, help is available through the employee family assistance program.
