May 16 | Site visits, vessel changes and training underway

This week I have been visiting members in Sandspit on the Kwuna, in Skidegate, aboard the Northern Adventure and now in sunny Prince Rupert for a pair of local meetings with the outgoing and incoming crews.

We have also held online town halls for members impacted by the Crofton-Vesuvius Island class vessel implementation plan from the employer as we seek to minimize negative impacts to members and their families.

This week at your union hall, our new relief LRO training for a few BCFMWU members has begun.

Sunday is international day for women in maritime, globally women represent 1.2 per cent of seafarers according to the IMO.

On Monday the union hall will be closed for the long weekend and next week has our CNC (central negotiating committee) meeting, a provincial executive meeting and a BC Federation of Labour regional conference.
