February 19, 2026

Inverlussa Marine Services will be bringing the vessel M/V Isaac McKinnon to Canada on a Coasting Trade License from May 1 to August 31, 2026. The vessel will treat and transport live Smolt from piers, fish arrive by road haulage and are then loaded into the vessel. Once loaded the vessel will depart for the marine site. During the transit water is monitored, oxygen will be put in and CO2 removed, and a stable temperature will be maintained with the RSW.

Once at the site, the fish will be discharged over the smolt counter into the seawater pens, Moving bulkhead is used to push out fish towards discharge pipes without draining wells. The vessel will then depart the site to clean and disinfect via manual cleaning and the use of ozone water before collecting the next load. Grading tables will be used if fish are to be separated by size, either on loading or discharge.

The M/V Isaac McKinnon will work within Pictou, NS, Georgetown, PEI, Stephenville-Newfoundland to seawater pens at marine sites off the coast of the Southern part of NL.

This position is a AB/OOW with a 40 to 60 percent split. This is for one position with a salary of $72.08 Canadian.

The BCFMWU has added this external job posting page as a result of an increase in requests for letters of concurrence through the Seafarers International Union of Canada (SIUoC).

A letter of concurrence is requested when a company operating a vessel within Canadian waters is seeking mariners and wants to bring in temporary foreign workers (TFW). Prior to ESDC (Economic Skills Development Canada) providing a letter of approval for a company to use TFW’s non-Canadian mariners, Canadian Marine Unions are to be canvassed and if there are no Canadian mariners available then a letter of concurrence can be provided through the SIUoC to ESDC.

*Note that the wage outlined in a non BCFMWU posting is not necessarily reflective of the regional pay and will use a “prevailing wage” as the floor for compensation. This is typically lower that west coast rates of pay.
