CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCY
AND PROFICIENCY EXTENSIONS
Brothers, Sisters, Friends.
The following bulletin, and Ships Service Bulletin is an update regarding Certificates of Competency and Proficiency.
- For those Officers who have certificates of Competency and your certificate was set to expire between October 1, 2019 and June 30, 2021 there have been additional extensions, please refer to the attached Ships Service Bulletin under “A”
- For those who hold a certificate of Proficiency (eg. MED’s Survival Craft etc.) that was scheduled to expire before December 31, 2021 the expiry will be automatically extended until December 31, 2021.
Certificates of Proficiency extensions are a recognition that refresher courses may not have been available, and logistically not possible to renew. However Transport Canada is looking to prevent further backlog of certificates both of Proficiency and Competency. So please look to plan for renewal by calling your local Transport Canada office.
Transport Canada is allowing the extension of standard medical certificates for those who work domestically rather than internationally to September 21, 2021, for clarification this does not refer to the upcoming new “Domestic” medical certificate. However Transport Canada advises to be booking appointments with your medical examiner, indicating this extension might be the last one.
