In order to mitigate disruption caused by potential Workforce Adjustment from the introduction of Island Class Vessels to Route 19, our Union and BC Ferries have agreed to the following MOU for the Gabriola Island (Descanso Bay) and Nanaimo Harbour POAs:
Between BC Ferry Services Inc. and BC Ferry & Marine Workers’ Union
Subject: Gabriola Island (Descanso Bay), Nanaimo Harbour
Gabriola Island (Descanso Bay) and Nanaimo Harbour are separate and distinct points of assembly except as provided in this Memorandum as follows:
- Homestead postings
This MOU shall be reviewed by the parties within 6 months of signing.
This MOU will be in effect for 18 months from the date of signing, unless otherwise agreed by the parties.
For added clarity, this means:
- Gabriola Island (Descanso Bay) and Nanaimo Harbour shall be considered the same location for the purposes of Homestead vacancy postings.
- Gabriola Island (Descanso Bay) and Nanaimo Harbour are considered separate POAs for the purposes of the Homestead/Fleetwide vacancy posting rotation.
- Intra-terminal transfers do not apply between Gabriola Island (Descanso Bay) and Nanaimo Harbour.
- Lateral transfers apply between Gabriola Island (Descanso Bay) and Nanaimo Harbour.
