Bargaining Update #16
BCFMWU WAGE ANNOUNCEMENT
After weeks of deliberations and reviewing thousands of pages of supporting documents the Permanent Bargaining Dispute Resolution Panel has come to a determination for our Union wages employed at BC Ferry Services Inc.
A General wage increase of 7.75% will be applied to all BCFMWU members as soon as the pay department is able to implement, many of whom are Union members themselves. It expected that payout of retro pay could take up to two pay periods before it is deposited in members’ accounts. Less time may be required to action the pay increases going forward.
Special Wage Increases in Addition to the General Increase:
As agreed by the parties, all increases will be effective April 1, 2024 and retroactive to October 1, 2023.
The panel will retain jurisdiction to deal with any issues regarding the implementation of this award. The parties should advise the panel as soon as possible, and in any event within 14 days of the date of this award, if any implementation issue remains unresolved, in which case the panel will put an expedited process in place to resolve that issue.
While we achieved the highest raises in a generation through the cohesive efforts of the Central Negotiating Committee, it is still not what we deserve. Because you supported us as your leaders and stuck together through this challenging time, we were awarded these increases and that’s a win. We have another opportunity to get what we deserve in less than a year.
When combined with the general 2% increase for each of 2022 and 2023, the cumulative general total increase will be 11.75% over the term of this Collective Agreement to April 1, 2025. In 2025 we will be negotiating for another General wage increase and additional Special wage increases followed by full contract negotiations including wages and full worker rights in 2025.
On behalf of your Central Negotiating Committee,
Strength in numbers and stronger together
