Bargaining Update #14
Union Bargaining Update
The following update is provided for the information of BCFMWU members only. Please do not post on bulletin boards or share on social media.
Wage negotiations for the general wage increase and special wage increases through the Collective Bargaining Dispute Resolution Panel have concluded.
After multiple days of hearing with the panel in October of ‘23 and February of ’24, both our Union and the Employer have completed closing arguments.
The parties’ positions remain apart in total package value and the determination on both the general increase and the special increases will be conducted by the three member panel.
Our counsel used information from membership, through the bargaining survey and submissions to and by our Central Negotiating Committee, inflationary data, market comparators, as well as extensive established and emerging cases to prove why our Union members deserve substantial increases after years of falling purchase power.
The amount of time the panel will take to make a determination is not known but we have impressed upon the panel the dire need for wage increases to be actioned and to be backdated to October 2023.
We expect a decision and payment plan to be determined in the coming weeks.
On behalf of your Central Negotiating Committee,
Strength in numbers and stronger together
