The BCFMWU has added this external job posting page as a result of an increase in requests for letters of concurrence through the Seafarers International Union of Canada (SIUoC).
A letter of concurrence is requested when a company operating a vessel within Canadian waters is seeking mariners and wants to bring in temporary foreign workers (TFW). Prior to ESDC (Economic Skills Development Canada) providing a letter of approval for a company to use TFW’s non-Canadian mariners, Canadian Marine Unions are to be canvassed and if there are no Canadian mariners available then a letter of concurrence can be provided through the SIUoC to ESDC.
*Note that the wage outlined in a non BCFMWU posting is not necessarily reflective of the regional pay and will use a “prevailing wage” as the floor for compensation. This is typically lower that west coast rates of pay.
