On November 21, 1889 a group of trade unionists met in the Sullivan Hall on Cordova Street in Vancouver. They agreed to form the Trades and Labor Council of Vancouver to address “matters pertaining to the welfare of workingmen.”  Fifteen days later the council was officially launched and has continued to this day as one of Canada’s oldest labour organizations.
