User License Agreement for the BCFMWU Forum
IMPORTANT READ CAREFULLY: This User Agreement is an understanding between you (the BCFMWU Forum Member) and the BCFMWU (B.C. Ferry and Marine Workers Union) that you agree to be bound by the terms of this agreement.
If you do not agree to the terms of this agreement, the BCFMWU are unwilling to accept your membership in the BCFMWU Forum. In such an event, you will not be permitted continued access to the BCFMWU Forum.
BCFMWU FORUM AGREEMENT The BCFMWU Websites are owned by the BC Ferry and Marine Workers' Union. This forum is provided as a communications tool for the membership. (Membership as described in Article 5 of the BCFMWU Constitution, and to include retirees in good standing).
The primary objective is to offer a venue for discussion around BCFMWU issues; Union issues in general, and Marine Industry related issues. It is not display for advertising goods and services for personal gain or others, except for the Buy Sell, and Trade room. Posts made by any person on this forum must not violate Appendix A or B of the BCFMWU Constitution. Nor can posts be used in any way, shape, or form, outside this Forum. Please also note that posts cannot be edited after a period of (1) One day of their submission. Posts become the property of the forum when submitted.
The forum is routinely monitored to ensure that if a violation of site policy occurs, the situation will be promptly managed as possible. In such an event, offenders will be contacted by a Moderator or Administrator and will be requested to modify, or delete the offending posting. The contact will describe how the offending posting breeches this agreement. A breech of this agreement may lead to loss of site-access privileges or, in extreme cases, disciplinary action by the Union. The BCFMWU Forum is NOT intended as a place where the basic and essential values of human rights, feminism, anti-racism, and labour rights are to be debated or refought.
Members that join this forum who indicate intentions to challenge these rights and principles may be seen as disruptive to the nature of the forum. Such members may be warned, have their membership account suspended or banned altogether. Repeated attempts to provoke conflict, bait or taunt will not be tolerated. Continued participation on this forum is at the sole discretion of the moderators of this site.
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory. You agree to avoid personal insults, attacks and mischievous antagonism (otherwise known as "trolling"). You will not post material that is inaccurate, abusive, hateful, harassing, obscene, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy or otherwise volatile of any law. You understand that racist, sexist, homophobic, classist (e.g. poor-bashing) and other excluding language is not appropriate on the BCFMWU forum. While we do have the ability to remove offensive messages, we will only do so in the most extreme cases. In those cases where the removal of posts is deemed necessary, it will happen within a reasonable amount of time. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove particular messages immediately.
Considering the real-time nature of this message board, it is impossible for BCFMWU Communications Committee volunteers to review messages or confirm the validity of information posted.
1) GRANT OF ACCESS: This agreement grants you the following rights:
(a) A user name and password is provided for your access only, within the BCFMWU Forum. (b) Unlimited use of the Forum Facility. (c) The right to post messages within the scope of the site user policy. (d) Site support from the Moderators and Administrators, which includes help with posting messages in the forum, and assistance with site policy issues should they arise.
2) DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS:
a) Content: Some posting(s) within a Topic may contain information that in the view of the Moderator or Administrator that may be of question. An effort will be made to have the originator make the change, deletion or asked to explain correctly first, subject to the discretion of the Moderators.
If that is not possible then this to inform users of the Forum that the Moderators/Administrators may, substitute wording indicating that a deletion has taken place temporarily while they consider a response to a posting. After a decision has been made, the posting will be altered by the originator or the Moderators/Administrator to reflect the decision.
b) Disclaimer:By any participation on a topic made, you shall remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless this forum and their agents and BCFMWU with respect to any claim based upon any post you may make You agree that you will not use this forum to post material which is knowingly false, defamatory, abusive, ful, harassing, , profane, ually oriented, threatening, an invasion of a person's privacy, or illegal in any way.
c) Corrective Action: BCFMWU-FORUM Moderator Team reserves the right to delete or remove user content from the site and to suspend or terminate an individual's access to all or part of the site, at any time for any reason without prior notice or liability at all times. d) Offensive Postings: Any registered user who feels that a posted message is offensive is encouraged to contact any of the forum moderators and/or administrators immediately by email. We will make every effort to address offensive postings, as soon as possible. This is a manual process, so please realize that we may not be able to review a particular message immediately. Failure to comply may result in the Moderator Team suspending, or deleting user access in accordance with s.2[c] Corrective Action of this agreement.
e) No Member Bashing: Upon posting messages, members will avoid Member Bashing, which includes the following:
(i) Personal Attacks (ii) Name Calling (that incorporates negative slights)
(iii) Unfound accusations (iv) Racist Remarks (v) Uttering Threats (vi) Harassing Messages (vii) Discrimination
f) Contact: When contacting offenders, Moderators will use one of the formatted responses best suited to the type of offence. Responses, may be modified where necessary in order to better communicate the issue. The response shall be structured to include:
1. Salutation. 2. The request. 3. The complaint. (Complainant s Name will not be divulged) 4. The violation of policy. 5. Moderator or Administrators name.
3) VIOLATIONS: Any violations of the User Agreement will be recorded and forwarded to all Moderators, Administrators, President of the Union and the Provincial Executive for review, with no expectation of immunity.
4) OTHER GUIDELINES:
a) Protection of Privacy: It is recommended that users follow these guidelines:
Post names only when/where necessary. Do not post others personal emails, addresses, or phone numbers without consent. Do not post employee numbers. Do not post license plates.

b) Password Protection and Access to Forum: Under no circumstances are passwords to be used by anyone other than the BCFMWU Forum Member they are assigned to. Or allow the access of Management to the Forum or information contained within the Forum in any form specifically viewing, printed or verbal. Breech of this clause equates to immediate loss of membership to the Forum and/or Disciplinary actions may be the result in some cases, contained within the BCFMWU Constitution.
c) Buy, Sell, and Trade: Advertising of Union Members personal goods may be posted in the Buy, Sell, and Trade room only. No where else on the BCFMWU Chat Forum is advertising permitted. There will be no promoting of stocks, bonds, opportunities or other financial investment venture anywhere on the BCFMWU Forum, including the Buy, Sell, and Trade room.
